HOW TO ENTER YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS

ENTRY:

1 contact sheet.
4 photos from that contact sheet (processed for showing)

The images (contact sheet and individual images) should not be larger than 1600 pixels on the longest side.
Images must be JPEGS. NO gifs or tiffs, please.

If you do not know how to make a contact sheet in Photoshop, watch the video below.

Name the images with your name and the following info.
Contact sheet should be named; firstname_lastname_contact.jpg
Images named: firstname_lastname_1.jpg / firstname_lastname_2.jpg

PLEASE FOLLOW ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS.

Put all of the images into a folder, ZIP the folder, and email it to me: don.giannatti@gmail.com 

The subject of the email must be: “Film Contest Entry”.

Welcome to “24 Frames in May” – a celebration of the art of analog photography!

We are thrilled to have you join us in this one-of-a-kind event, where participants are invited to embrace the charm of film and capture life’s fleeting moments with a roll of 24-image film. This is your chance to reignite your passion for analog photography or discover the magic of this classic medium for the first time.

As you embark on this creative journey, remember that each frame is precious. With only 24 opportunities to capture the world around you, take a moment to consider the story you want to tell and the emotions you wish to convey. Let this limitation be the catalyst for your creativity, and let each click of the shutter be a testament to your artistic vision.

At the end of the event, our esteemed panel of judges will carefully evaluate your work, awarding prizes to the top 5 winners. Prepare to have your work displayed in a curated show on Lighting Essentials, where your images will be seen by a global audience, and your talent recognized and celebrated.

So, dust off your favorite analog camera, load it up with film, and let the adventure begin! We can’t wait to see the captivating stories you’ll tell and the beautiful moments you’ll immortalize through the lens of your camera.

RULES OF THE CONTEST:

  1. The images must be shot during the month of May 2023. (No legacy images, please.)
  2. Any and all subject matter is allowed and we have no categories.
    (NSFW images may be submitted but will require model releases to be furnished.)
  3. The film can be color or black and white.
  4. Accepted film formats:
    1 roll of 35mm, 24 exposures.
    2 rolls of 120 film (20 or 24 images total)
    3. 24 images on large-format film (4×5, 8×10)
    4. 24 images on Polaroid
    5. Absolutely no AI generated imagery, nor composited work.
  5. A short bio, and information on the gear used

  6. Instructions for uploading will be available on May 15, on this site.
  7. All images must be uploaded by midnight, June 30, 2023
  8. You must commit to having fun. It is all supposed to be fun, you know.

What to enter:

  • A Contact Sheet of all the images.
  • 4 images photographer’s choice
  • Model releases (only for NSFW imagery. No other work requires a release)

To make a contact sheet, either scan the contact sheet if you had the lab make it analog, or use Contact Sheet II in Photoshop for a digital contact sheet from your scans.

Awards will be released on June 15, 2023, along with the opening of the online gallery.

Before uploading you will have to register and accept the terms of service which will be simple: You will give me permission to post your images on the online gallery, and to use them in a blog about the contest. Copyright remains with the photographer in all cases.
